One Man ... One System ... Three Red Lights?

Well ... it has finally happened. After months and months of us sitting on the outside thinking that we were the luckiest podcast hosts on the planet because the red ring had not struck us.

Until now ... or maybe not ... but probably. Here’s my story.

An unfortunate string of things that have happened to me since I moved from Michigan to Florida ... job market sucking as bad as it does in Michigan, iPod deciding to go for a swim in the canal, and now the X-Box going belly-up.

I’m not sure if it was watching DIVX episodes of House marathon style, playing more games than I have since I got it, or just plain bad luck, but my X-Box is dead. Now let me say that I do have a 1st generation system, and it was probably just a matter of time, and it was actually a good thing that it died now and now after the 3 year warranty was up.

I was told by the Indian Microsoft Rep that it would be a 3 to 6 week turnaround on my system to fix it, but if it is beyond repair ... they would send me a new one sooner. (Which I’m really hoping for.) At this point I put the X-box away and mourned for the next 24 hours.

Then I sat down to write this ... and I was going to take a picture of me next to the red rings ... I some how resuscitated my X-box and it is currently working. Now ... this is probably just a tease ... but I am going to put this box to the test tonight and try to beat Lost Odyssey before it dies again.

There is obviously something wrong with the system seeing as though it “Red Ringed” 10 or so times a couple of days
ago when I tried to turn it on. So I’m going to do my best to run it to death because whether I like it or not ... it is on it’s way out.

And while the X-Box is 75% of my entertainment down here in Florida while I’m trying to get adjusted ... I’d rather have it work 3 years from now than 3 days from now.

I’ll keep ya posted.

Mike,

It is unfortunate that you got “red ring of death”, but like you made comment too, at least you got it before the warranty ran out…how long before that happens for you anyway?

Yeah, your box is toast. Mine did the same thing. It died one day and then it worked the next. But then it died about 4 hours later for good. False hope sucks.

Well … it died again before I even got a chance to play anything else on it. The towel trick didn’t even work.
