Mario Party 8 Review ( 6.5 out of 10 ) ...
April 9 , 2008 ... Review by Listener Wil
If you have ever sat down to play a game by yourself that people have said is good, only to say to yourself, “this game really isn’t that good.” Then you have no doubt played Mario Party 8. But this game does have more to it than meets the eye. While only 8 year olds can really appreciate this game for what it is, a collection of 50 -75 mini games, and still have fun, I can say there were parts of this game that I enjoyed.
First, I really enjoyed watching my almost 8 year old daughter play the game with me and against me. I also found it fun to see her reaction as she would have to play mini-games that she has played before and would say either, “I am not very good at this one,” or “I am really great at this one.” I guess what I am trying to say is this game has appeal in a multi-player sense and only if you have kids. If you have children under the age of 13, this is a great game.
On the flip side of that though, if you are going to play a “board game” or “mini game collection” by yourself on the Wii, there are better ones than this. The single player mode in this game is along the same lines as Halo 3. It’s there and if you want to play the game for a time killer you can, but it is far more fun playing with others, namely young children (not that I would play Halo 3 with my daughter). My daughter loves this game, and I love watching her enjoy it, but it is not something I will play by myself, with that being said I give it a 6.5

Nice review Wil, short, sweet and to the point. I really appreciate you taking the time to write this one up. I just wish we could have posted it sooner.
If you’ve got anything else out there that’s calling you to review it, please, be our guest!

Thanks Chad. I read your review on TiQal, it is very well written. I felt…how shall I say, “less than adequate” in my review of Mario Party 8 after that. But I did it on breaks at work over a few days. Nothing special, but just one, who doesn’t play a lot of games that are not on the PC.
Come to think of it I should do an Orange Box Review. Not the lame PS3 and 360 port that came out (couldn’t do it anyway since I don’t have either system), but the one for the PC. I will work on it…there is so much to the Orange Box that it could get lenthy. I haven’t really looked into the PS3 and 360 port, but does it have everything that the PC version does? Half Life 2, Episode 1 and 2, Portal (Game of the Year 2007), Team Fortress 2 (great online shooter)?
I might have to do a partial review. I have played through Portal (Game of the Year 2007) and Team Fortress 2, but I am only about 75% through Half Life 2 (which I know is an older game), but then there is Episode 1 and 2 also. Hmmmmm, any thought gentlemen? Honesty is always appreciated.

If you have to piece it out, I see no problem with that at all. In fact, in some of my reviews I go as far as saying that I’m only reviewing the 1-player, or the multi-player experience. I think it’s safe to do so, as long as you blatantly state it the heading of your review.
Take my EDF 2017 review for example, I don’t think I’ve ever played that alone, nor do I plan on it.
And about my writing ability, I just do it a lot so I guess that ’s how I got better at it. The next thing I need to remedy is my potty-mouth on the show. All in due time I suppose.
Oh, and another thing that really helps my writing ability is translating Japanese TV shows into English subbed programs. That helped with a lot of grammar things you wouldn’t normally have to think about until you edit your own work 3-4 times.

Hahahaha … remember that episode that you swore 160 times in 2 hours?

I would love to be able to translate Japanese TV shows to English, but there is one problem….I don’t speak Japanese. *holds up “sarcasm” sign*
*Headline:* (Which are what Chad….ha ha ha) GFW no longer has a magazine!?!? Whoa.
Well, I will be listening for the new show…keep up the good work.

And yeah Orange Box 360/PS3 had all the same parts as the pc version. Except the PS3 version was gimped, it had framerate issues. Most of the reason for that is that it was developed for console on the 360 and ported to PS3. PC and 360 development is pretty similar technically.

Yeah I remember that episode. I watched way too many Angry Video Game Nerd episodes in a week, and then I unknowingly copied him. Oops.
Translating Japanese TV shows into English is tough, especially if you’re not working with an original script. Maybe I’ll do that next time, I hear that’s much easier.
Still though Wil, if you can get something up for any part of the Orange Box, that would be cool. We’d certainly appreciate it.
