Headshot Radio The Difference Between the Site and the Show

I decided to write this editorial for various reasons. First, we’ve had some comments on our blog and some mails to the show that have made me realize how very different our show and site are. I’m more or less writing this to clear things up for people who come to the site and see nothing like the show. Or vice-versa, people who have listened to the show come expecting the same attitude on the website and assume they had entered the wrong web-address.

Most of the time I personally write anything for the site, I write in a very professional, serious style that mirrors what you would find on any big site like www.1up.com or www.gamespot.com. The reason for this is that I take my reviews seriously, and the bulk of my editorials as well. The same can be said for all of my co-hosts. Some of us are a little more lax in our writings, but for the most part, the site is much more serious and professionally-minded than the podcast. However, there are also some times when we’re just chatting with some listeners on the blog and we lose any sense of professional credibility, not that we had any to begin with. The biggest difference between our site and the big sites is that we all have real-life jobs, and we play games in our free time. Because of that, we don’t get behind-the-scenes looks at things, and we’re solely here to give you our opinions on games. That’s also the reason why our reviews aren’t always on schedule with the big sites’ reviews. We play these games when we get the chance, and don’t review them until we feel we can write a complete and honest review.

During the podcast, we’re pretty well known for goofing off and going on tangents about God-knows-what, and odd things that almost none of our listeners could even begin to understand. Then there are other things that are staples of our show that the listener may or may not like… things like our Lost talk, or my What’s the Good Word segment, where I’ll talk about anything from the most popular game in Japan to something messed up with the culture there that I just can’t wrap my head around. That’s almost always because I encountered it whilst walking around the streets during the last week. Everyone else on the show more or less does the same thing (albeit at a lesser-extent), and the main idea with the show is that we’re just having fun talking about video games, and we like to have an excuse to talk with each other once a week. After all, we don’t really get a lot of chances anymore to get together and talk in person, because we’ve got an awful lot of land and water between us.

As we mention in the show every couple of weeks, we’ve all been friends pretty much our entire lives, so we know a lot about each other, and take every chance we get to pick at each other’s flaws. But all things considered, just remember that this podcast is four assholes talking about video games. As seriously as we may take the site, the podcast is a separate entity, and we’re just having fun.

If you have any ideas on how we could improve the site or the show, please leave a comment or E-Mail us at Feedback@headshotradio.com.

*stands and applauds* That was spot on man. I have been listening to this show really since it was its predecessor “The Rundown”. I dig this show. All the parts are there. The fact that you have these tangents and are not “stuffy” like the other shows is what makes you different…in a good way. I stopped listening to the 1up show when I found Headshot Radio. I will admit that it was because of your sister podcast, The Michigan Sports Show, that I started listening to this one. Since I started to listen to this show, I have not stopped, nor will I ever stop until you fellas say you’re done. I may be a “super fan-boy” in either a good way or possibly a too over the top way, but you are my favorite podcasts. That was a great editorial Chad. Pat yourself on the back, grab a soda or Saki, play Smash Brothers, and keep up the great work. That goes for the other guys too…Mike, Eric, and Derek, and Dustin when he is on. *steps off soapbox*

Thanks as always Wil. It’s always nice to get some feedback on what we’re doing with our show. Granted at times its just us four (sometimes five) assholes ripping into each other about a silly “.5″, the whole idea of the show is to be fun, and informative. We only cover regular gamers seem to care about, and then there’s that little bit extra you get with whatever insight into our personal lives. Again though, the show is by no means professional, and I hope this editorial sheds some light on that. The website is getting more and more “streamlined” as Derek would put it, but we’ve still got aways to go I think. The art is almost all done, and after that it’s just minor things.

And yeah Wil, if there was an award for Super Fan, I think you might have it. That is, if I didn’t already love the show more than anyone out there. But I’m one of the hosts, I don’t think that I should count.

About the 1UP show, it’s a fantastic show, and that’s the only other podcast that I listen to religiously aside from our own show. It’s very informative, and allows me to catch up with a weeks-worth of gaming info in about two hours. Unlike most casual gamers (I think I can hear someone calling Eric’s name), I like to hear about that stuff.
