Capcom getting sued over Dead Rising

Capcom tried to head off the legal advances ... but they are being sued by one of my favorite horror directors and writers of all time ... and I’ll bet you can guess why. I think it has something to do with the fact that Dead Rising takes place in a Mall ... the main setting of George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead. Here is a statement from Romero’s camp ...

“Both works are dark comedies. In both, the recreational activities of the zombies and absurdly grotesque 'kill scenes' provide unexpected comedic relief.

Both works provided thoughtful social commentary on the 'mall culture' Zeitgeist, in addition to serving up a sizable portion of sensationalistic violence.”

Ok ... according to Romero ... no zombie works are allowed to be funny but also serious ... zombie activities can not be funny or gross ... killing zombies in a grotesque way is strictly forbidden ... and dear god the zombie work can not have an underlying theme about culture as a whole.

Now George ... you’re terrific ... and I’m royally angry I can’t find your new movie in theaters anywhere around me ... but DUDE ... COME ON! The plot of Dead Rising is nothing like the plot of Dawn of the Dead ... and the similarities are known as an homage ... which I think is a close cousin of the parody. If the world can’t make a zombie story without stepping on your toes ... we mine as well hand the zombie genre to Michael Bay and let him ruin it like he ruined the Transformers.
